Kinesiology and Recreation Administration (Minor in Sports Coaching)

The academic minor in Sports Coaching is offered for students interested in becoming a youth, middle school, high school, collegiate, or professional sport coach.  To complete the minor, students must take 21 hours of required courses.  All courses to be included in the minor must be passed with a grade of “C” or higher.  Courses in (parenthesis) indicate prerequisites to Coaching Minor Courses.  The National Standards for Sport Coaches (2019) are identified by eight (8) domains.  Each domain reflects the scope of coaching responsibilities.  These courses provide undergraduates with the opportunity to explore sports coaching under the Kinesiology or Recreation Administration degrees.  Sports Coaching services as a potential for career or graduate work.

*The minor requires completion of 21 credit hours.

Sport Coaching Minor


The Sport Coaching Minor may be chosen by any Physical Education and Recreation degree-seeking NCCU student.  The purpose of the coaching minor is to provide guidance for individuals that strive to embark into the exciting world of coaching (National Standards for Sport Coaches, 2019).  The courses and qualifications will expand the core body of knowledge, in coaching, through the reflection of eight domains of sport coaching.  The domains are recognized by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education in the 1995 publication National Standards for Athletic Coaches.
