Overview

The graduate curriculum in Family and Consumer Sciences leads to a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. There are two areas of concentration in this program: Human Development and Family Studies, and Nutritional Sciences.  The concentration in Human Development and Family Studies have thesis and non-thesis (internship) options. The Nutritional Sciences program requires an internship. In addition, the department offers a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with graduate-level licensure for entering students who hold or qualify for an initial teaching license at the undergraduate level. The Licensure program requires preparation of a National Boards Certification Portfolio.

The Department of Human Sciences also houses a Dietetic Internship Program, which is a post-baccalaureate, supervised practice program that qualifies graduates for the examination for registered dietitians. The Dietetic Internship Program at NCCU is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) the accrediting agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (The Academy). Full-time Interns will be able to complete the Dietetic Internship Program in 45 weeks including completion of 15 semester hours of graduate credit in Nutrition/Dietetics. The internship starts August of each year with a week of orientation. For students wishing to continue their studies, the 15 semester hours of graduate credit may be used towards the Master of Science degree graduate program now offered on line. Students interested in applying for the DI program should go to the www.NCCU.edu website and search for Dietetic Internship Program. Use the “Student Info Guide & Application” link to access the Student Application Information Guidelines.
