The mission of the Department of History is to promote student success through research, teaching and service with emphasis on developing students writing, speaking and knowledge base in order to prepare students for employment in the global society. As a reflection of the cultural and intellectual diversity of the global community, the department will promote multi-cultural learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, top-rated research, and state-of-the-art technology. The department will set high goals in recruitment, enrollment, retention, and the ideals of dedicated community service through its student organizations, lecture series, and symposiums. The mission of the department will uphold at all times emphatic recognition of the core values of the humanities, genuine commitment to scholarship and teaching, academic integrity, and principle-centered leadership.

 

Here are the mission statements for the degree programs:

 

MISSION: The B.A. program of the Department of History prepares students for careers that involve research, writing, and critical thinking, as teachers, archivists, and in other fields that utilize the skills that students learn in this program. The B.A. program also prepares students for admission to graduate programs in history and for admission to law schools.

 

MISSION: The M.A. Program in History prepares students to teach in secondary and higher education, to work as public historians, or to advance their graduate or professional education. In doing so, the program produces historians who demonstrate excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
