PHRM 4140 - Pharmacovigilance (3) Prerequisites: PHRM 2130 or permission by instructor This course offers a comprehensive understand the detection and evaluation of adverse drug reactions as it applies to the safety of medicines and protecting patients. This course explores the principles and practice of pharmacovigilance it’s application in the surveillance of a wide range of medicinal products. Students will learn about adverse drug reactions throughout a drug’s life cycle from toxicology and clinical trials through to pharmacovigilance,and risk management. This course Will also cover the safety of bio therapeutics and vaccines and includes new chapters on pharmacogenetics, proactive risk management, societal considerations,and the safety of drugs used in oncology and herbal medicines. Discussions will include a look at the history of drug safety in the United States and globally and learn about blockbuster drugs that were taken off the market due to public safety concerns.
