History, Comprehensive Social Studies

Curriculum Requirements


1. 126 semester hours:


Complete a minimum of 126 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU.

2. General Education Requirement:


Freshman and sophomore years complete the General Education Requirements. See the “General Education ” section in this catalog.

3. Complete the following courses:


  1. POLS 2100  or POLS 2120  
  2. SOCI 2000 /SOCI 2100  
  3. GEOG 1000  or GEOG 1100  or GEOG 2100  
  4. ECON 2100  or ECON 2200  
  5. BIOL 1101 or BIOL 1201  or CHEM 1100  (Courses cannot be used to satisfy GEC science requirement)

4. History major requirements:


Complete the following:

  1. HIST 1100  
  2. HIST 2000  (must be taken in sophomore year).
  3. HIST 2210 , HIST 2220  
  4. HIST 2890  
  5. HIST 4310  
  6. Two European History courses (6 hours).
  7. Two African and or African American history courses (6 hours).
  8. One seminar course from HIST 4010 , HIST 4020 , HIST 4040 , HIST 4050 , HIST 4060 , HIST 4070  (must be taken senior year).
  9. At least 3 hours from any other 2000 level or higher undergraduate history course.
  10. In courses A-E and H students must earn at least a grade of “C”.  “D” or “F” grades must be repeated.

5. Education requirements:


  1. GPA of 2.5 or higher for admission to teacher education.
  2. EDU 2600 , EDU 2800 , EDU 3000 , EDU 3010 , EDU 3030 , EDU 3120 , EDU 3150 , EDU 3170 , EDU 4010 , EDU 4126 , EDU 4226 .
  3. A GPA of 2.0 is required for the major.
