Curriculum Requirements
The Theatre Education concentration is offered to prospective theatre educators. Students engage intensive teacher-training activities that lead to certification for teaching K-12. 1. 124 Semester Hours:
Complete a minimum of 125 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. Student must successfully repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. 2. General Education Requirement:
Freshman and sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study. Students must have a ‘C’ or better in ENGL 1100 and ENGL 1200. Non-departmental requirements (must have a grade of ‘C’ or better):
MUSL 1200 or MUSL 3300 - Piano Class I (2) * Course may be used to fulfill a GEC Requirement + Course must be completed in addition to a GEC Requirement Departmental requirements (must have a ‘C’ or better):

Following the sophomore year, theatre education students must pass the Praxis (PPST) exam and apply to the Teacher Education Program. Acceptance into the program require the following: - 2.5 or greater GPA (2.7, beginning July 1, 2017)
- C’s or better in GEC English courses (e.g., ENG 1100, 1200, 1250)
- Interview
- Writing Sample
- If the undergraduate grade point average is below a 2.5,
- Passing scores on Praxis Core Academics Test (R-156, W-162, M-150) or a 468 total score OR
SAT Reading and Math - 550 each area or 1100 composite (Reading and Math only) OR ACT Reading and Math - 24 each area or 24 composite Program Notes:
Each major must fulfill the following: - Audition for at least one show annually
- (Performance concentration majors must audition for every show)
- Work in a technical capacity for at least one show annually
- Stage manage at least one show before graduating
- Work with costume or make-up design for at least one show before graduating
- Attend all workshops

Many courses listed in the first year of these plans are specific to this degree program and may not fulfill degree requirements for other programs at the University. Students are advised that changing their program of study from this major to another major, after the first year, can extend the time until graduation by a semester or more. Note(s):
Following the sophomore year, education students must pass the Praxis I (PPST) exam and apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program. Acceptance into the TEP requires a 2.5 GPA, a grade of C in required English courses and a recommendation from the Theatre Faculty. Spring Semester
