The Dance Education program synthesizes creative, theoretical, and kinesthetic work through a range of knowledge, skills, and competencies consistent with N. C. State educational standards for the theatre student interested in teaching dance as a profession.
1. 120 Credit Hours:
Complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. Student must successfully repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU
2. General Education Requirements
Freshman and sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study. Students must have a “C” or better in ENGL 1110 and ENGL 1210.
Following the sophomore year, theatre education students must pass the Praxis (PPST) exam and apply to the Teacher Education Program. Acceptance into the program requires the following:
2.7 or greater GPA
Passing scores or Praxis Core Academics Test (R-156, W-162, M-150) or a 468
Total score OR
SAT Reading and Math - 550 each area or 1100 composite OR
ACT Reading and Math - 24 each area or 24 composite
C’s or better in GEC English courses (e.g., ENG 1110, 1210, 1250)
Completion of GEC (or on track with program of study)
