Curriculum Requirements
The Theatre Education concentration is offered to prospective theatre educators. Students engage intensive teacher-training activities that lead to certification for teaching K-12. 1. 120 Semester Hours:
Complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. Student must successfully repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. 2. General Education Requirement:
Freshman and sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study. Students must have a ‘C’ or better in ENG 1110 and ENG 1210 . Non-departmental requirements:
MUSL 1200 or MUSL 3300 - Piano Class I (2) * Course may be used to fulfill a GEC Requirement + Course must be completed in addition to a GEC Requirement Departmental requirements:

Following the sophomore year, theatre education students must pass the Praxis (PPST) exam and apply to the Teacher Education Program. Acceptance into the program require the following: - 2.2 or greater GPA
- C’s or better in GEC English courses (e.g., ENG 1110 , ENG 1210 )
- Interview
- Writing Sample
Program Notes:
Each major must fulfill the following: - Audition for at least one show annually
- (Performance concentration majors must audition for every show)
- Work in a technical capacity for at least one show annually
- Stage manage at least one show before graduating
- Work with costume or make-up design for at least one show before graduating
- Attend all workshops
