[Physical Education, Concentration in Fitness and Wellness, B.S.

Curriculum Requirements


The concentration is designed for students who are interested in advanced scientific knowledge of how physical activity, exercise and sport alter health and human performance. Many students from this concentration pursue careers in fitness and corporate wellness, strength conditioning, personal training, managing fitness/wellness centers and further their training in graduate school.

1. 120 semester hours:


Complete a minimum of 120 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. Students must repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ courses in major and non-departmental required courses.

2. General Education Requirement:


Freshman and sophomore years: complete the General Education Curriculum  (GEC) as required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study.Students should have completed all GEC courses by the last semester of the Sophomore Year. Students must have a ‘C’ or better in the GEC courses of  ENG 1110 , ENG 1210 BIOL 1300  , BIOL 1610 , and Math.

3. Complete the Physical Education Program Requirements with a “C” or better:

Students who cannot swim must take KIN 1100  Beginning Swimming before KIN 2100  Intermediate Swimming.

Program Notes:


Students must complete and pass, with a ‘C’ or better, BIOL 1300  , BIOL 1610  , BIOL 1620 , and KIN 2000  before enrolling in 3000 and 4000 level courses. 

Students must complete all course requirements before registering for KIN 4640 .

< Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 in their major prior to enrolling in KIN 4640    and must have completed all coursework with a “C” or better. Students will not be allowed to enroll in the course if they have not finished all courses.

Many courses listed in the first year of this plan are specific to this degree program, and may not fulfill degree requirements for other programs at the University.  Students are advised that changing their program of study from this major to another major, after the first year, can extend the time until graduation by a semester or more.
