Curriculum Requirements
The Music Education Concentration provides students with the knowledge and skills required to teach K-12 school music, along with coursework required by North Carolina Department of Education for Music K-12 licensure. Separate tracks for instrumentals and vocalists are offered.
Instrumental or vocal audition required by Department of Music for degree program acceptance.
1. 125 Semester Hours:
Complete a minimum of 125 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or better. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. Students must repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses.
2. General Education Requirement:
Complete General Education Curriculum required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study.

5. Additional Requirements
Senior recital required with seventh semester of applied instruction (APPL 0XX1). Application for and acceptance in Teacher Education Program (TEP) required for enrollment in MUSL 3530 , MUSL 3560 , EDU 4118 , and EDU 4218 . PRAXIS II required for TEP.
Program Notes:
Major Ensembles for Music Education include: Marching Band; Symphonic Band; University Choir; Jazz Ensemble; Vocal Jazz Ensemble; String Ensemble (orchestral string majors); Guitar Ensemble (guitar majors); Percussion Ensemble (percussion majors as assigned by applied instructor).
