Curriculum Requirements
The Department of Music offers a strong, diversified undergraduate curriculum leading to the Bachelor of Music degree. The Jazz Concentration provides academic, applied instrumental and vocal, and ensemble instruction focused on the development of knowledge and skills necessary in jazz instrumental and vocal performance. Targeted instruction is offered in jazz theory, jazz arranging, jazz improvisation, jazz composition and the history of jazz.
Instrumental or vocal audition required by Department of Music for degree program acceptance.
1. 124 Semester Hours:
Complete a minimum of 124 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. Students must repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses.
2. General Education Requirement:
Complete General Education Curriculum required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study.

Senior recital required with eighth semester of applied instruction (APPL 0XX1).
Program Notes:
Major Ensembles for Jazz Concentration include Jazz Ensemble (instrumentalists) and Vocal Jazz Ensemble (vocalists).
