EDEC 5628 - Instructional Reading Strategies for Exceptional Children (3) The course will prepare special education teachers to instruct students with special needs in the area of reading. Course topics will focus on the neurological and psychological foundations of reading disabilities. Teachers will learn to use current research to support methods of early identification of reading disabilities and remediation strategies. Educators in the course will learn to use NC Standard Course of Study and systematic research supported reading programs to enhance letter recognition, word identification, vocabulary building, fluency, and comprehension in students with special needs.
