PHYS 5310 - Advanced Quantum Mechanics II (3) Prerequisites: PHYS 5300 . A study of the principles of quantum physics with an emphasis on selected applications to atoms, molecules, solids, nuclei and elementary particles. This is the second course of a two-semester sequence. Topics include the addition of angular momenta, tensor operators and the Wigner-Eckart Theorem, the path integral formulation of quantum theory, approximation methods including the variational and WKB methods, time independent and time dependent perturbation theory, scattering theory and an introduction to relativistic quantum mechanics and the Dirac Equation. (Three hours lecture per week.).
