GERM 2104 - Introduction to German Civilization (3) Prerequisites: GERM 1192 or the equivalent. A survey of the major political, economic, social, and artistic developments in Germany from tribal beginnings to 1945. Major topics include Norse mythology and pre- Christian values, church and state conflict, Gothic and Baroque styles, the Reformation, industrialization, and the rise of nationalism. Readings, discussion, and some composition in German.
