Physical Education: Concentration Strength and Conditioning, B.S.

Curriculum Requirements


The Strength and Conditioning concentration will prepare students to work with athletes as a strength and conditioning coach in secondary schools, collegiate and professional sport programs and private settings.  The student will develop the skills and knowledge required to design physiologically sound programs to enhance athletic performance and implement programs.  Through coursework, practicums, and internships, you will learn the knowledge and skills needed to earn certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  This certification is required in order to obtain a job in the field of strength and Conditioning.

1. 120 semester hours:


Complete a minimum of 120 semester hours, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better.  The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. Students must repeat ‘D’ and ‘F/ grades in major and non-major required courses.

2. General Education Requirement:


Freshman and Sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum(GEC), required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study. GEC courses should be completed by the end of the sophomore year. Students must have a ‘C’ or better in ENG 1110  , ENG 1210  , BIOL 1620   and Math. 

3. Program requirements:


Non-departmental requirements(must have a grade of ‘C’ or better):


(List non-departmental course requirements, if applicable; non-departmental courses are courses outside the student’s department and may include recommended GEC courses or  additional GEC courses. BE SURE TO NOTE which GEC courses May share/meet a GEC area,  as well as those that May Not share with the GEC, i.e., the student must take these courses in addition to standard GEC options. Do not include GEC courses that are standard for all students, e.g., English, ENG 1320  , HUM 2410/2420, Speech, etc.)

 

5. Additional Requirements


Students will have to take any required prerequisites in addition to the 120 semester hours in the concentration.

Program Notes:


Students will be required to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association certification exam.
