English, English Education Concentration, B.A.


Curriculum Requirements


This concentration prepares students for education careers in middle and secondary schools.  A 2.7 or better GPA must be maintained as the overall GPA as well as in all English courses.

1. 126 Semester Hours:


Complete a minimum of 126 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 GPA or better.  The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU.  Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in the following courses:  ENG 1110 , ENG 1210 , MSCM 1250  or MSCM 2200 , ENG 1300  or ENG 1400  or ENG 2410 , and ENG 1500 .

2. General Education Requirement:


First and sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum  required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study.

Students must earn a passing score on the PRAXIS Core Academic Skills for Educators Examinations in Reading, Writing, and Math. Students who have a total SAT score of 1170 or an ACT score of 24 are exempt from Core testing requirements for the NCCU School of Education Teacher Preparation Program (TEP).

Students must also earn passing scores on PRAXIS II English Language Arts: Content Knowledge and PRAXIS II Principles of Teaching and Learning: Grades 7-12 after they are admitted to the TEP and before they can earn their North Carolina secondary English licensure.
