The Civic Engagement and Public Policy concentration incorporates the courses approved during the previous academic year with the existing classes that comprise the “American Government” subfield. Courses approved as requirements last year are converted to electives along with all the other classes in the revised concentration to ensure students can build the most effective plan of study relevant to their respective career path. POLS 2105 Introduction to Public Policy is a new course that serves as a prerequisite for the courses previously required in this concentration; it essentially provides students training equivalent to the Introduction to Public Administration class that was eliminated (with the undergraduate major in Public Administration). Students concentrating in this area of political science will be trained to enter occupational positions relevant to federal, state and local government, or to enter graduate programs in American government or, especially, public administration (such as the outstanding one here at NCCU).
