Curriculum Requirements
Physical Education: Teacher Education Licensure Program
The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) in its revised form requires that all undergraduate majors meet the Teacher Education Council’s criteria.
The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).
1. 124 semester hours:
Complete a minimum of 124 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. 2. General Education Requirement:
Freshmen and sophomore years: complete the General Education Curriculum as detailed on the four-year course of study with a minimum grade of “C” in the ENG 1110 , ENG 1210 , and MSCM 1250 ; BIOL 1610 , MATH 1100 & MATH 1110 . Placement test scores may require enrollment in lower level courses in English, Math, Reading, and Foreign Language. The lower level courses must be passed prior to enrollment in the General Education Curriculum courses listed on the four-year course of study.

Teacher Education candidates may not enroll in restricted courses prior to admission to the TeacherEducation Program in accordance with NCDPIpolicy. Those courses include the following:

The courses listed above meet the requirements in all aspects of the new PRAXIS II in Physical Education and Health.The new requirement for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for PRAXIS II is #0856, Physical Education and Health.
7. Complete the concentration in Physical Education Licensure
8. Repeat “D” or “F” grade in all major and minor courses.
9. Demonstrate proficiency in intermediate swimming.
