Course Requirements for The Master of Arts in English
General English Program Requirements
- A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- At least 30 semester hours of graduate level courses including the thesis. Course details are provided below.
- Successful completion of a reading proficiency examination in a foreign language.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive written examination.
- Successful completion of an oral examination associated with the thesis.

Additional Course Requirements:
Five courses (15 credit hours) are required from the courses not taken above, as approved by the student’s academic advisor. Three of those courses (9 hours) may be a minor drawn from another graduate level program at NCCU (subject to approval by the English program coordinator or Department chair.)
