The Juris Doctor of Law and Master of Information Sciences (JD/MIS) program is designed to allow students to develop a deep technological understanding of the legal issues in the information and Computer Technology industry and to learn about technology requirements in a law practice. According to the US Department of Labor Statistics, positions in professional, scientific, and technical services have an above average growth rate projection in software development compared to average growth for lawyers (https://www.onetonline.org/find/industry?j=23-1011.00&i=54). The potential is in combining skills and knowledge about the law with systems management and information technology. Graduates also can be consultants on technical issues, legal technology, and subject proficiency. The NCCU Juris Doctor and Master’s Degree in Information Science is a dual degree program that allows law students to develop strong technical knowledge and skills. The program is designed to permit students to develop a deep understanding of the legal and technical issues in the Information and Computer Technology industry and to learn about systems requirements in a law practice. Students will develop both legal and technological skills by earning both degrees simultaneously. The program requires twenty-four credit hours (required and elective) from the MIS program and 88 credit hours (required and elective) in the JD program. Nine credit hours of information science courses will meet the elective requirement for the law degree. (79 LAW, 24 LSIS). While enrolled, students must satisfy the academic requirements of each program separately.
