Curriculum Requirements
The undergraduate courses in the B.S. Biomedical Sciences degree in the Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences are designed to provide a basic program for the training and development of prospective biologist, including students interested in careers in fundamental research, biotechnology, and teaching as well as those planning to enter such applied fields as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy and physician’s assistants.
1. 120 Semester Hours:
Minimum of 120 semester hours. The last 30 semester hours must be completed at NCCU. Students must repeat ‘D’ and ‘F’ grades in major courses with no grade lower than “C” in any biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics course.
2. General Education Requirement
Freshman and Sophomore years: complete the General Education Curriculum (GEC). Science and Mathematics courses required for the major satisfy GEC science and mathematics requirements.
3. Program Requirements
Non-departmental requirements (must have a grade of ‘C’ or better):
Complete of the following groups:
- Math 1100 - College Algebra Trigonometry I (3)
- Math 1200 - College Algebra and Trigonometry II (3) or (Math 1410
- Math 2010 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry I (4)
- Chem 1100- General Chemistry I (4)
- Chem 1200- General Chemistry II (4)
- Chem 3100- Organic Chemistry I (3)
- Chem 3310- Organic Chemistry Laboratory I (1)
- Chem 3120 - Organic Chemistry II (4)
- Chem 3320 - Organic Chemistry Laboratory II (1)
- Phys 2110 - General Physics (4)
- Phys 2120 - General Physics II (4)
Departmental Requirements
Departmental requirements, 31 credit hours in core curriculum (must have a ‘C’ or better):
The first three courses must be completed in the sequence given, with a grade of “C” or better, before any other Biology courses, required or elective, may be taken.
