Dietetic Internship Program (DIP)

I. Admission Requirements


Students interested in applying for the DI program should go to the www.nccu.edu website and search for Dietetic Internship Program.  Use the “Student Info Guide & Application” link to access the Student Application Information Guidelines.

The DIP is a very competitive program.  Up to 20 students can be accepted each year.  Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, human nutrition institutional management, foods, or related area from a ACEND accredited didactic program.  To be accepted students must have:

  1. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale.
  2. A minimum grade point average of 3.00 based on a 4.00 point scale in professional courses in nutrition, foods, and dietetics.
  3. A minimum grade point average of 3.00 based on a 4.00 point scale in courses in the biological, natural and physical sciences.
  4. Completion of the GRE within the last 5 years.  For IP scoring purposes an acceptable GRE score is between 50-60 percentiles on the “new scoring scale”.
  5. Work experience; academic honors; volunteer and community service.
  6. Applicant’s letter of application and letters of reference.
  7. Personal and/or telephone interview.
  8. A Verification Statement from an approved undergraduate program bearing an original signature of the program director, or declaration of intent to graduate from a ACEND approved program.

III. Exit Requirements


  1. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher is required.
  2. Successful completion of at least 9 credit hours of required DIP courses is required.
  3. Successful completion of 6 credit hours of supervised internship practice is required.
  4. Successful completion of a written Comprehensive Examination is required.

Note


*Note:  Contingent upon program approval, a Registered Dietitians’ track will be available for Registered Dietitians, or students in non-NCCU Dietetics Internship Programs, to waive the 6-hour internship requirement, with permission from the Dietetics Program Director.  Students would be required to complete the 27 hours of online graduate courses, rather than complete 33 total graduate course hours, in order to graduate.
