The Department offers nationally accredited academic programs designed to prepare professionals for careers in Kinesiology, athletic training, exercise science, sports medicine, sport management, fitness and wellness, recreation administration, recreation therapy, and teaching physical education.

The Department offers the following degree programs:

1. Kinesiology

2. Online Kinesiology

3. Recreation

4. Sports Medicine

5. ABM-Accelerated Baccalaureate/Master’s in Recreation Administration

 

 

Kinesiology Degree Concentrations:

1. Fitness and Wellness

2. Strength and Conditioning

3. General Kinesiology

4. Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE)

 

A Kinesiology degree is a versatile, multifaceted, and all-inclusive scientific study of body movement that provides students with an entrance into a field with diverse graduate school opportunities and career options. A student pursuing a degree in Kinesiology has a multitude area to study such as: exercise science, sports management, athletic training, sports medicine, socio-cultural analyses of sports, sport and exercise psychology, fitness leadership, physical education-teacher education, and pre-professional training for physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, and others health-related fields.

 

Recreation Administration Degree concentrations:

1. Parks and Recreation Management

2. Recreational Sport Management with Business Minor

3. Recreational Sport Management with Sport Coaching Minor

4. Recreational Therapy

 

The curricular emphasis is on the professional preparation of students for careers in a variety of recreational settings, such as:

Ø Municipal, K-12 schools and colleges,

Ø professional, athletic, and recreational sport agencies and arenas,

Ø hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers,

Ø city parks and recreation, state and national parks,

Ø commercial, nonprofit, campus, employee, military agencies, health clubs, fitness centers, and clinical and nonclinical sites.

OTHER Programs

 

ABM-Accelerated Baccalaureate Master’s (ABM) Program.

 

There is an enrollment approval process for the ABM Program.

 

Below are a few points to note and consider:

1. Under “Program Requirements” you would need to earn a “B” or better in all graduate courses attempted.

2. You can only complete 12 hours of graduate coursework.

3. In graduate school at NCCU you must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better at all times.

4. This is NOT admission to graduate school but the above points are relevant.

5. You will need to officially apply to graduate school for January 2021 admission.

6. You are considered an undergraduate student until officially admitted to and enrolled in Graduate School.
