Overview
The Department of Social Work at North Carolina Central University is committed to recruiting applicants from diverse backgrounds. We are seeking students who are interested in working in a broad range of social work practice settings where children, juveniles and their families are the populations of interest.
The MSW Program is a two-year full time program. Classes are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6:00-8:30) and all day on Saturday (9:00-4:30).
Students are in their field placement 16 hours a week (2 days) during the foundation/1st year of the program; and, 24 hours a week (3 days) during the advanced/concentration or 2nd year of the program. There are no exceptions to field. The Director of Field Education cannot guarantee evening or weekend placements. All students must satisfy the practicum hours to be in compliance with the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and to meet the eligibility requirements for candidacy for graduation.
Advanced standing (one year accelerated) is an option of the MSW Program open to those with an undergraduate (BSW) degree in social work from an accredited institution and program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) within the last seven years.
Advanced standing students begin in the summer and complete two “bridge” courses; one the first summer session and one the second summer session. Students must successfully complete the “bridge” courses with a minimum grade of “B” to progress to the second year/advanced/concentration courses in the fall.
