CHEM 1100 - General Chemistry I (4) Prerequisites: Demonstrated proficiency in College Algebra and Trigonometry I - MATH 1100 with a grade of C or better. A first course in chemistry designed for science majors. Topics covered include: atoms, molecules, and ions; calculations with chemical formulas and equations; an introduction to chemical reactions; the gaseous state; thermochemistry; quantum theory of the atom; electron configurations and periodicity; ionic and covalent bonding; molecular geometry; and chemical bonding theories. (Three lecture, one recitation, and three laboratory hours per week)
