CSEC 5020 - Cybersecurity Law, Policy, and Risk Management (3)

Cybersecurity has permeated every facet of society making it paramount for IT professionals to proactively manage cybersecurity risk management by guaranteeing the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. Cybersecurity risk management also involves an understanding of the legal frameworks, policies, and regulatins governing the processing, storage, transmission of organizational IT assets. This course introduces students to the current cybersecurity legal frameworks, policies, and regulations. The course also introduces the guiding principles employed in developing organizational cybersecurity risk management policies and framework. Some of the concepts covered include cyber privacy and data protection law, Internet of Things cybersecurity laws and guidance, the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), the NIST Privacy Framework, and organizational cybersecurity risk identification, assessment, and management. The course includes multiple hands-on labs related to real-world tasks to reinforce the covered concepts. Open for undergraduate students with permission of instructor.
