EDEC 5505 - Neurological Visual Impairment (3) Prerequisites: EDEC 5601 Structure and Function of the Human Eye Pre- or Co-requisite: This course has had EDEC 5601 as a prerequisite. In the future instead of being a prerequisite, 5601 will be co-requisites and will be offered in together in the same semester. Neurological visual impairment is a common cause of blindness among young children. Rather than a disease of the ocular system, it is a pathology of the pathways in the brain that impede interpretation of visual stimuli. This course provides information on the causes, characteristics, assessment and interventions associated with NVI. Learners will study both early intervention as well as sensory processing skills leading to acquisition of more advanced academic skills.
