Family and Consumer Sciences Education (Secondary Licensure)

Curriculum Requirements


The concentration in Family and Consumer Sciences Education prepares students for a teaching career in family and consumer sciences programs. Students will complete courses in child development and family relations, foods and nutrition and apparel design and education.

1. 128 Credit Hours:


Complete a minimum of 128 semester hours with a cumulatie grade point average of 2.7. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU.

2. General Education Requirement:


Freshman and sophomore years: complete General Education Curriculum  required by the university as detailed on the four-year course of study and be admitted into the Education Preparation Program. Students must have a ‘C’ or better in ENG 1110  and ENG 1210 .

Students must pass the PRAXIS Core exam before being admitted to the Educator Preparation Program and enrolling in upper division courses.

Program Notes:


Students may be exempted from the competency exam by successfully passing PRAXIS II or maintaining a minimum GPA or 3.0 in major courses through the 1st semester of the senior year of courses.
